Events in 2007

In the course of the year 2007 the IAS Officers Association, Bihar Branch organized a wide range of activities. If there was fun and frolic on the one hand, there was also the pursuit of things more serious. The open general house of the Association in the first week of January set the tone and tenor for the entire year. The first activity of the Association was to organize a New Year get together for all its members on the 5th of January. Thereafter many opportunities came when the members along with their families met for recreation and celebrations, of which Holi Milan in February and Diwali celebrations in November were memorable.
The Association aiming towards capacity building of its members organized a number of seminars. Dr. B. Rajender, D.M. Patna made a presentation on “Management of Offices within the Collectorate” which gave useful suggestions for effective systematization of office work. In collaboration with India National Polio Plus Committee of Rotary International, the IAS Officers’ Association organized a session on advocacy with Commissioners, District Magistrates, DDCs and others officials of Bihar for a “Polio Free Bihar”. A presentation on “The Investment Options before the Civil Servants” was made by Mr. Gaurav Singh which gave a new and innovative perspective on methods of investments. The 2005 batch officers before leaving for the phase II training at LBSNAA, Mussoorie gave a delightfully refreshing presentation regarding their district training experiences. If the 2005 batch was full of hope and enthusiasm, the 1955 batch, popularly known as the Club-55, emphasized that it was imperative for the Government to encourage the implementation of various schemes through non-governmental efforts.
The Association lent active support to other organizations for various programmes. Significant among them was a Free Health check-up camp for the weaker sections of the society organized by the IAS Officers’ Wives’ Association.
On the recreation front, a cricket match between Chief Secretary’s XI and Bankers’ XI was arranged by State Bank of India, Secretariat branch.
The inauguration of the Billiards room at the IAS Bhawan, with its world class equipment was a feather in the cap for the Association. The Association while providing entertainment for its members did not forget the needs of others. The monsoon months saw relentless rains and unprecedented floods. The members contributed atleast Rs 1000/- each and a total sum of Rs 1,09,601/- was deposited in the CM’s relief fund.
Apart from these new members, 2006 batch and those promoted into the IAS, were welcomed in the month of April and all the retired members were given a  collective farewell in the month of June. In September, the untimely demise of our beloved member, Shri M.M.Jha was deeply mourned. A farewell was organized for outgoing Chief Secretary, Shri A K Choudhary in November.
The Friday Lunch continues to offer sumptuous food and an informal platform through which members interact. The members have through regular meetings raised various issues of importance.
The year 2008 promises to be yet another vibrant year and we believe that the members would energetically participate in all the activities of the association.
